Well, I'm waiting on a barrel. 300 Sherman dies just came in...Starline brass on order..I think I'll be fireforming with low cost Hornady 150's, but I'm planning to use Nosler 190gr ABLR's or Berger 190's or whatever it likes for hunting.

What primers should I use? I'm torn between Fed 210 match and 215 Match...opinions? My first thought is 210, but the comparable cases by volume are the 300 SAUM and 300 RCM....both use magnum.

So, I'm thinking about powder. Base on my data research for 30-06 AI, 280 AI, 300 SAUM, 300 RCM and 300 WSM, I'm thinking R17 - H1000. Rich strongly suggests the R26, but I think he loads a lot of max velocity long barrel rifles. This is a 24" Brux barrel and obviously, I'm looking to put 5 in the same hole at 100 yds and 0.5 moa or better at 300 -600 yards. I don't think I need max velocity....2800 -2850 with 190's would be great. So, what do other 300 Sherman shooters think? When I cross these calibers best powders, I get an R19 -H1000 range of burn rates. I like StaBALL 6.5, H4831SC, R23, IMR 7828SC, R26, H1000.

Any advice?

Unfortunately the realities of COVID 19 may stick me with 6.5 StaBALL and H4831SC. Barrel is still 1.5 months out.

@FEENIX should be able to help you out. He runs a 270 Sherman or you can get a hold of @elkaholic asbhebis the designer of the case.

I appreciate the mention but I have a .270 AI and currently also use the H4831SC.

@elkaholic and I have talked....I'm just looking for others with experience. If not, I'll make my own path.

Rich is correct, others are reporting 75-100 FPS range in gain with RL-26. I have not explored it yet but it is in my plan for this year.

Good luck!

Ed
