300 Savage in Model 99

I recently saw a post in the classifieds for some 300 Savage Dies and it brought back memories from when my dad had a 300 Savage Model 99 Lever Action with a Weaver Scope. Back then a lot of hunters in NE PA only hunted with iron sights. It was kind of a "State of Art".
Right after I saw the post for the Dies, I saw an article on the internet about the 300Savage.

I wish that my dad didn't sell his. When I was a young boy he ended up in the VA hospital for several months out of work and sold it.

My hunting mentor had a 300 Savage, I even have a set of dies for it if he ever brings out retirement. Cool old rifle

I have my Dad's 300 savage. He bought it in 1947 for elk in Montana. I have pictures of many big bulls and deer he took with it…open sights of course. That old 99 is my most prized possession in memory of him.

My buddy has several Savage 99's in various calibers, some fancier than others. He tries to keep them in original type condition and uses period correct glass on those fitted with scopes. First one was his dad's. It started a love affair with them. That 300 Savage is a wonderful cartridge.
