My barrel for my 30-284 should be here tomorrow! Then I have to drop it off at the smith and wait awhile. Probably several months. So I'll have time to try to find the best powders and primers.

Questions on loads-

1. Does quickload have the ability to do calculations for this wildcat cartridge?

2. For load data, does anyone use .30-06 data for loose guidelines with success?

3. Does anyone have powder recommendations for 180-200gr bullets that seem to work well with a variety of different bullets?

4. I would think this cartridge would favor slightly slower powders than the '06 due to case design. Is this true?

I'll likely have a 23" barrel and I always shoot Sierra or Speer bullets.

I have a pound of RL16, probably 4 pounds of h4350, and a couple of imr4451.

Not sure on the 30-284, but my 284 throated long for 180's(long action) loves 55.5gr of H-4831 running them just shy of 2900 FPS. Not sure if that helps but that's all I have that's close.

That's smokin fast! Do you use a regular or magnum primer?

These should give you a baseline ...

Primer is BR2, velocity is at 2857 was thinking it was 2870. Still does a great job at 1,000 yds. Velocity at 1,000 in box right hand side

… I run my 28" barrel with a 200.20x bullet on top of 59 grains of H1000…
Gives me velocity of 2718…
Also have a load with 208 Bergers on top of 56 grains of RL26 with a velocity of 2700…
The h1000 load is slightly compressed…
Nothing fancy velocity wise but exceptionally accurate and I only have to neck size brass with the lower pressures…
FYI the 200.20x in my 308 is a hammer on game running 2600 fps.

I finally got mine to shoot by neck sizing and 53 gr 414 with 180 hornady bt interlock and tighter groups with 53 gr 414 and 190 sierra mk, 10 shots at 600, 9, x's and 1, 10
