A cartridge or even the go-gauge should actually protrude almost one eight inch (I think .110 rings a bell)...out of the chamber...So when you placed the shell in it it was probably where it was supposed to be....The head space should not have changed unless you actually changed the position of the barrel and that would have required you to loosen the barrel nut....
Check the ejector button in the bolt head..If this is stuck "jammed" out then you will not be able to close the bolt...You should be able to push it in with your fingers...also check for any debris in the bolt head that is not allowing the case head to go all the way in...
Keep narrowing down the possibilities and you will find the culprit....
