What rifle are you loading for? What are you looking to do? Me personally, I don't get to go out and shoot 1k yards. Heck, I would have to travel awhile to even get 500yds, BUT, I can go out my back door and get 200yds whenever I want (it's hilly). Hunting laws limit me to non-existent pigs, very few coyotes, or an abundance of groundhogs. In working up powder/bullet combos, I eventually settled into the speer 130gr HPs and IMR 4227 powder. For MY situation, it works great, mostly punching paper and keeping the groundhogs in check. My best shot is cutting a quarter in half at 88yds. (quarter was sideways) I've done it many times, but usually cannot find the evidence. I was able to get one half by sticking it in a crack in a log, which when I hit it, shoved it a foot down the crack. It remains my go-to gun for taking whiskers off groundhogs, but as I age, the recoil... well, it beats the hell out of me. (Rem700BDL). I've picked up a suitable replacement gun (Savage 110BA-338LM), which is kinder to the shoulder.
Sorry I got off track, but I guess what I'm trying to say is- each gun will have it's own "sweet combo", and finding it can be a challenge.
