I am trying to decide on a bullet to for my 30-06 that I am dusting off. It fell out of favor for a few years but I am going to use it as a Little bit of a testing platform. I have a 28N, 280AI, and a 6.5 Creedmoor in the stable also, and use Bergers in those...195, 168, and 140 respectively. So in this gun I want to try some ABLR to see how they perform at the range and in the field compared to the Bergers.

I am thinking I want to stay away from the 168's in the '06 because if I am going to shoot a 168gr, why not use the 280ai and get (likely) much better better velocity (I get right about 3000 in the 280ai)? And I haven't ever used anything above a 180 in the gun, so I want to play with the 190 and 210's a bit, and I am kind of curious about the 210's bc I haven't ever loaded anything above 200gr in any of the guns I have.

I am guessing based on published load data, but when I use 2800 and 2700 for the 190's and 210's, the 210's perform better across the board, based on energy. What are people actually seeing velocity-wise with these bullets, and what powder do folks recommend?

I have H4350, H4831sc, N560 and 565, H1000, and Retumbo. I'm thinking I'll start with N560 but curious have other recommendations for powders I already have.

Any other thoughts people have?

Thanks in advance.

In a typical 22" to 24" barreled 30-06 you are down to about 2600 fps with a 200 gr. pill. That's with a 4350-4831 class powder... I've played quite a bit with 30-06's over the years and run several hundred sierra 200's through one rifle that was fond of them. You make be able to make a few more fps with a few of the newer powders, but you are really case volume and throating limited here.

I ran the 210 in my 30-06 and was maxing out at 2618 FPS. Those bullets are long and take up a lot of case capacity. The testing I did was with RL22 not sure on the charge weight it was a thumper.

The ABLR perform terrific on game though. I run the 210 in my 30 Nosler at 3058 FPS. Made longest kill to date on a mule deer at 626 yds. Bullet performed excellent and deer didn't know what hit him.
