You're welcome and Merry Christmas to you as well. I don't have the reamer print handy, it's a PTG straight SAAMI. The SAAMI chamber drawing should suffice, my .284 Win chambers head space is somewhere between 0 and + .0019"

I have 3 284 with standard saami spec chambers. I've always wanted to seat bullets out, but am limited by the clips on two of the rifles to 2.8". I have gotten very good , accuracy with all three as they produce 1/4 , 1/2 amd 3/4 MOA. I have kept to lighter weight bullets and haven't had any issues on game because of the mono bullets available. The 140's are my favorite at around 3125 FPS and full penetration on bulls is the norm. H4350 and Rel 19 have proven to be good powders for this round.

I am building my daughter a hunting rifle in 284win. Running lapua brass. Getting ready to order a barrel from carbon six. Looking for advice on proper amount of free bore for 140-168 class bullets. My max coal is just under 3.25in. I have zero 7mm bullets to get any measurements from I only have 6mm and 30cal. I would be willing to buy singles from someone who has a good selection of 140-168s to get my own measurements and to send them a dummy round or 2. I have attached the reamer print they have on hand. I would have to rent one if I wanted something different.

Pointy, attached is update with Burger 140 VLD, Sierra Game Changers 150 &160, and Hornady ELD-X 150 &162.

Straight SAAMI works for me and <150's, I like a full neck.

You will be better off with med or long action with that 284 win short action max oal is 2.980

I haven't seen twist rate mentioned , you need too get the proper twist if you are going too shoot heavy for cal bullets .

Coal is 3.25 as mentioned. Twist will be prob 9. Like I said rifle for my daughter not going heavy prob 150 to 160 class.

In my X-Caliber prefit (I think SAAMI chamber, they don't say otherwise), here are the OALs to the lands.
162 ELD-X: 3.162"
168 LRX: 3.140"
168 ABLR: 3.194"
180 Hybrid: 3.238"

Because of the tapered lands, the 284 Win SAAMI chamber is especially tough to calculate 'freebore'. If you're good staying under 168, I'd say SAAMI would work for your daughters gun.
