In reviving my old thread, I finally got some decent time on the target the last 2 mornings. Temps finally cooperated and this morning when i began it was 54f.
I have still been trying to get the Swift Scirocco II to shoot. I just couldnt get away from that bullet, Mostly cause i liked the tough construction of it and it had a nice BC to go with it.
I picked up a pound of IMR 7828ssc awhile back and that was going to be the powder that i wanted to work with this weekend.
I set up my dies and measured a starting point of .010 off the lands. I loaded 5 rounds and went and shot them for a group over the chrony. Low velocity was 3029 high was 3056. The group, well i bout couldnt hold it together as each shot stacked right in there.
Now the funny part,
After a group like that i had to shoot another! When back down to the reloading room and started to load up another 5 rounds. Then i looked at my calipers laying on the bench. They were closed and weren't reading anywhere close to 0.00.
I closed them up, zeroed them and then measured the round that i had just made. 3.29. These bullets touch the rifling at 3.39. Thats right, This unbelievable load is shooting at .100 off the lands! Went and shot the 2nd group and really beared down. EVEN BETTER! (see attached) This is a 5 Shot group. Not 3!
I wanted to confirm velocities with the shooter app on my phone. I backed up the max distance my range is right now of 450yds. Put a balloon about the size of my fist on the target. punched some numbers for this new load into shooter, I put in 4.5 MOA of elevation, and held for 3 MOA of wind. Balloon disappeared. (attached)
I would have stopped long before i ever got that far off the lands, Some mistakes are worth making i guess...
I went in and had a cup of coffee. Figured this was a good place to stop for the day.
