28 Nosler - Best Hunting Bullets?

I dont think people are questioning the performance of the Berger 7mm 180's it's the 195's. I run the 140 vld's in a 6.5 at 3200+ and they have performance flawlessly on multiple elk and deer all the way out to 890.

I built a 7mm-300wm, with the 195s in mind. I have put 92 of them through it. They shoot great, half mil hold in 12mph winds at 700 yards. I have heard all of the talk about poor performance on animals. It made me second guess my decision after I bought 500 of the 195s. I watched my dad kill a 6x6 bull at 330 yards last season with my brothers 7mm rem mag shooting 180gn bergers. He hit him high, but he was deader than dead. No exit wound, it was different than I was used to being new to the long range stuff. The bull was dead either way. I am going to hunt elk and deer this season with the 195s. So I am approaching the upcoming season with the mindset that if I make a poor shot there will be consequences. I can't rely on my bullet to break a shoulder past 300 yards. I must make a clean shot behind the front shoulder. I am practicing a lot, and getting a good load worked up. All of the accountability is on the shooter regardless of the equipment we choose to use. Just my two cents.

there is at least one tread here and multiple on accurate shooter about the 180 ELD-M blowing up at velocities above 3000 fps mostly because of worn barrels. seems to show up past 400 yds but I have not seen it happen on any of my barrels yet.

I wonder how many had polished the throats on the barrels as the throat worn and heat cracked? There was one that had them blowing at lower vel but not higher. He did mention smith found tooling marks in the grooves but not sure what ever became of it. I always polish my bores with JB as needed in the throat area to keep this and heavy fouling from happening. I think I get longer life doing this. Regardless though it give me more confidence in the rifle doing it.

For such a popular bullet I would think there would be lots of reports if this was a bullet issue. Maybe a small batch? In the Hrdy Ref Vol it states they are made for up to MV 3200 fps. If the issue is with the bullet then they have some explaining. Looking at the cross section photos that have been posted they look plenty thick from neck thru bearing surface. We may never know if it was a thin skinned batch but if its rough throat and few inches of the bore we should see more of it. Not sure that is the bullets fault though.

I had 175g Sierra Matchkings going "poof" at 50 yards after I had approximately 200 rounds down the pipe of my 7mm AM (not before that round count with the same MV fps). MV was 3485 fps. I'm running the 180g ELD's at 3380 with no problems.

I have 2, 28 noslers. In my Christiansen arms ridgeline I'm using 175 grain ELD-X at 3180 fps, and in my other rifle I'm in the process of working up a load with 195 grain bergers . I am very happy with the performance of the 175 grain ELD-X on elk, mule deer and black bears.
What kinda powder you using for 175 eld-x.. if i may ask..plz thank you

I'm shooting 162gr eldx's in mine. Couldn't get heavier bullets to shoot. Mine is a 9 twist. Only killed a couple of animals with it so far. No complaints. Powder is 8133, primer 215M, adg brass, prepped and sorted.

Kai, my rifle also has a 26" Proof barrel. I shoot 195 Bergers, I have taken 3 deer with this rifle and two javelina. All have died in their tracks. Baseball-softball size exit wounds, closest shot was 220 yards, longest was 530. I use a Meplat trimmer on all my 195 EOL's.
3085 fps.
