270 Winchester loads w/ IMR3031 and 130gr TTSX

7828SSC has a slightly slower burn rate than H4831SC. If memory serves me correctly, max will be about 62gr for 130gr cup and core bullets.

However, the Hodgdon lists a compressed load of 60.2 gr as max for the 130 TSX at just shy 3100 fps at 62 kpsi. The 270 is good for 65 kpsi.

Start off low and work up. I'd personally start at 57 gr and shoot a one shot Satterlee ladder for velocity and POI in 0.5 gr increments. Based on the results, focus in on what works best.

Your probably going to fall into the category of "you can't fit enough powder in the case to get in trouble".

Review this thread also...

If you can't get the TTSX to shoot, I'll trade you some 150 gr Partitions, 145 gr ELD-X, or 150 gr Fusions. One of those will work with your IMR-7828SSC. But the 130 TTSX is a great choice for Elk.

Hello, I am new to this forum and elk hunting. Long time deer hunter, primarily in the heavy woods but preparing for my first CO elk hunt.

I recently purchased a 270 winchester rifle and will be working up an accurate load for the rifle. Unfortunately I don't have any 4831 or RL-22 on hand and given the way things are it could be a while. I've seen a few loads online using 3031 (which I have in abundance) using various 130gr bullets but I am hoping my rifle like the 130gr TTSX. I plan to back way off on the charge as I think the TTSX will have more bearing surface than the 130gr bullets I;ve seen in other loads.

Does anyone have experience using IMR3031 in the 270?

Any feedback is appreciated.
Yes, 3031 is on the fast side, but it may work. I use H4895 in my 270 with 130 GMX bullets. With 47 grains, I get clover leafs every time and it averages 2,925 fps out of a 22 inch barrel with single digit standard deviation. It has taken several animals the last few years!

I have had great luck with a win model 70 in .270 using IMR 7828ssc and 130TTSX, 3000 fps and 1/4-1/2 groups.

I hope my rifle like the TTSX 130gr. That's the bullet I'm hoping to load for. Otherwise I'm may look into the 124gr Hammer Hunter and/or Nosler partitions.
