I recently acquired a tikka ctr in 260 rem. I had loads available from my savage predator 24" rifle in 260 Rem. using 140 amax, and 45 grains of 4831SC that shot well. Concern is, is a 20" barrel too short for 4831SC ? chronograph is trashed but guestimating that fps is 2600? is anyone shooting this load out of a 20"

Not as yet. I bought 3 boxes of factory ammo to start, and have about 30 rounds through it. No startling revelations. Mixed bag of breaking in results. Likely my first reloads will be 95 grain V-Max.

Quick question if you don't mind-Does the magazine on yours seem unusually sharp?

2600 is probably a little fast you're not going to know for sure until you get the chrono back. Velocity is barrel dependent I have seen 22" shoot faster than 24".

For faster choices try win 760/H414 or H4350. That firearm is going to shoot well with any reasonable combination. H100 is also an excellent choice along with N560. All of these shot 1/2 moa from my sako 22" H4350 maybe closer to 3/4 moa.

Do you have any pressure signs at 45gr? My hornady 9 say's 46 max for 2700 from a 24"bbl.If you want a good hunting with the 1 in 8 twist try the 120gr tsx or ttsx. You should be able to get to 2800 fps with it and it makes an excellent choice out to 300 on these whitetail in VA.

Check this site .260 Remington

Good luck and shoot straight

I'd like to stick to 140's. How does h1000 do with these out of a 20" or what velocity should I expect?

H1000 is a good choice as well it has been a little faster than H4831 in my 24" 260. It has a slower burn rate and were talking maybe 25fps. Accuracy is good as well at 50gr.

Shoots straight

Hey guts shot some 140 amaxes with 44.3 of 4831sc found best coal so far at 2.86

Typo, mobile phone keyboard, 45.3 of h 4831 sc was the charge
Ease it up to 46.0 gr of 4831sc and watch it close the group. I use this load in mine and it shoots extremely good at 300 yds. Watch for pressure on the way up. Mine shows no signs at 46.3 but accuracy suffers a bit. I shoot the 139 Lapua at 2830 fps. with this load.

With my Savage LRP I had to back off of 45gr of H4831 with 142 SMK's. It shoots sub .25MOA but I was getting loose primer pockets at one firing with any brass.. My Magneto speed read 2700FPS. I have backed off to 43.7gt and my primer pockets are OK but my groups opened to .25-.5. and velocity at 2600 FPS. Going to try H4350.

I actually had a savage model 10 predator in 260 that shot well with similar load. I used 45 grains of h4831sc but seated 140 amax out longer to 2.885 coal seemed to relieve any pressure issues. That would group 5 shots in 0.3 , but have sold that rifle. Had tried h4350 . I have an older thread on here about it

How did it shoot with H4350 and how much did you use?
Thanks!
