SOLD/EXPIRED 257 Ackley, Win M70

For sale is a custom 257 Ackley. Model 70 Winchester action, older HS precision stock, action bedded into stock. Believe trigger has been worked over, I'd say right at 3 lbs. Unknown barrel make, but shoots very well, contour similar to magnum sporter. Got good 10-shot group with Speer 100s at 100 yards while fire forming. Have a set of 257 Roberts and a set of 257 ackley dies to go with it. A few little dings but overall very solid condition.

Cleaning rod check confirmed a 1:11 twist. Borescope shows no firecracking at all in throat.

Bought this from an estate and don't see it getting used as much as it should. I think it has potential but it's the neglected child.

Does this use Ackley's original specification or the SAAMI specification that uses full length 7x57 brass (i.e. no case trimming)? Thanks!

Sid i'm not entirely sure on that... i had some 7x57 brass I was going to use, worked fine until the bullet was seated and the necks were too thick. It was old Graf brand brass, appeared very thick to begin with.

I have fired regular 257 roberts ammo and it worked great. Have some already-formed 257 ackley brass i bought used, have not loaded anything with it yet.

Ultimately spent very little time with this rifle so unfortunately don't have a lot of specific first hand knowledge about it

Can you measure on the fired cases for confirmation. Factory loads suggest it is SAAMI spec not, Ackley's original wildcat which is a good thing to me at least.

Yes i can measure, but not exactly sure on which measurements to take. Let me know and i can mic it.

I'm seeing 2.233" to the case mouth which matches 7x57. 0.290" might also explain the neck thickness issue you referenced.

@Huntnaz i checked it with a cleaning rod with a few iterations... So fairly confident in that as I've done it before.
