In 25-06ai 26"barrel wanting to shoot 110 nosler accubond. Nosler list retumbo witch is one powder I was going to try, but h1000 is not listed!!! Is there a reason h1000 is not listed? What would be a good starting load with h1000? Any other powders to try with 110 accubonds?

From Hodgdon website, this will give you an idea where to start

R#25 with fed 215's.

These two bullets puts deer on the ground faster than the 110g accubond in my experience....no down side....period! Your gun will shoot tiny groups with one of these two bullets.

If you like a 100g bullet, the Hornady 100g flat base acts like a partition, very accurate also at 3500 out of the 26" AI that I had.

I shot R#22 with the 100's, and R#25 with the 117-120g bullets. Today, R#23 with the 100g and R#26 with the 117-120g bullets is where I would be. Our shots down a long logging road ran 250-475 fps Mid state SC where the deer limits were liberal.

The speer 120 and Sierra 117 are bullets worth building a rifle around, and anyone that has shot these two bullets will tell you the same.

Thanks I will have to try them!

Load one shot and one shot only, increase your powder charge .5g at a time. Turn the cases head up in the loading box, watch case head with a magnifying glass:

lettering depth
edges of primer
Bolt lift
Case head scuffing

Mark where you see max pressure, and chronograph!

Most accurate load will be within 2.0g of the max load. Do not use federal brass.

You will see on the case heads how pressure incrementally increases, R#26 is going to shock you on speed and accuracy.

Start max load for std 25/06, consult several loading manuals.

Never tried h1000 in my 2506ai's

With the accubond 110gr I've only tried imr 7828ssc 56gr giving a velocity of 3114fps with no pressure signs...

Don't have a burn rate chart in front of me but I believe h1000 is slower than 7828ssc... and all the loads if seen on Hodgdon site show h1000 max loads about 2-3 grains heavier than 7828ssc for about the same max pressure....
Basically what I'm saying is what plunked says should be right... 57 gr should be a good starting range....

Hope that helps...

Orch, I shoot 7828 in big 7mm, can't help you on the 25's.

R#23 and 26 are supposed to be less temp sensitive than H1000, but it is nice to shoot up what you have on hand. I gave my 110's away after loosing two deer with them, one was a nice buck. When you hit a deer at 200 and beyond with the 117-120g, you hear a resounding WHOP! Deer can't stand it! You just h ave to figure out if your barrel likes a speer or Sierra bullet, then buy 10 boxes.

My go to load for the 2506ai is Reloader 25 59.5gr with 115 Bergers, only messed around with other powder and bullet combos when Reloader 25 became hard to find 3-4 years ago... retumbo 59.5 grains gave almost identical results to rl25 in my two ai's so once I found that out I used it... have never been a fan of 7828, always seemed to pressure up quicker and gave me some hangfires in some of the cartridges I tried it in...

Have no doubt Reloader 26 would shine in the 2506ai, it has in all the other guns I've loaded it in, just never really tried it in my 2506ai's since I have about 6lbs of Reloader 25 on hand and only use it in my 25's

What states are you hunting in? I am in SC. We had a lease that was like a deer zoo, but swamps off to the sides and plenty of rattlers and copper heads when you start chasing wounded deer.

How did you like the 115g Vld hunting on deer?

Manitoba, canada... thankfully no snakes to worry about here!

Mixed results on the 115gr vlds... very accurate...have killed many deer with both the hunting and target version... as always placement is key... I've never lost a deer from wounding it and not recovering it, but on occasion found the hunting version to be too fragile and under penetrate, and have had the target version not open up and tumble through the animal and recovered a banana on the opposite side under the skin... have since moved on from the 2506ai as my go to deer rifle, not because I didn't like it, I just like playing with new toys... still use it for long range coyotes...
I guess if I were going to still use it as my go to deer rifle I'd maybe look at a different bullet...

H1000 is one of the very best temperature stable powders made. It's one of the reasons the military 300winmag load uses it. The temp extremes they put the military loads through I don't think any human would see. Minus 45f to plus 145f. I know I'm not doing it. As far as loads for you Rl26 will put you almost at 257wby speeds. I used 7828 in mine for years. H1000 won't give you big speed but it will be consistent and accurate.
