I just added a .243 to my line up. Anybody have any advise on the loads?
Im currently loading h4350 and 105 Amax. Im getting around 2800fps out of a 24" Krieger 1-8 twist. Is there anyone out there with a similar set up. If so what powder are you seeing best results with 105s.

Of course accuracy is more important to me than velocity but I was expecting a little more.

Thanks

I use the Hornady max load of RL22 with the 105 Amax with good accuracy. I have never Chronographed it, but am probably getting about 2800 FPS as that is what is listed in the Hornady 8th edition manual.

But... checking the manual, I just saw that they list RL17 at 2900 FPS with a max load. That might be the ticket. I use RL17 for a 300 WSM with stellar results! I think I will try some RL17 for the 243 with 105 Amax this year.

Good Luck.

Deathwobble,

I currently load H4831SC behind a 105r VLD with a great deal of success. It shoots consistently .25 MOA at 2967 fps. from a 26" Krieger 1-8" barrel. I have shot the AMAX using this same combination but did reduce the charge 0.2 grains with just a 15 fps. loss in velocity to keep the same accuracy.

You should be able to get better than 2800. My 26" 6BR averages 2830 fps with the 105 amax, a .243 should be able to beat it by at least 100 fps.

There are several powders listed close to or over 3000 fps from a 24" barrel on Hodgdon's load data site:

Take Aim at Rifle Reloading Data | Hodgdon Reloading

I have a 6mm-284 in a 24" barrel. (rechambered Rem 243 takeoff) Got a huge gain in velocity when switching from H4350 to RL-17 with a 95 gr berger classic bullet. 3250 fps to 3433 fps! I would certainly add RL-17 to the list.

In my 28" 1 in 7.5" twist 6mm-284 RL-33 worked best with a 105 berger hybrid. Top load beat Retumbo (another powderoption for your 243) by approx. 175 fps! Had to use a drop tube for high load density, it is a compressed load.
