Looking for good data for the 240 WBY and 87g VMAXs with H4831, RL22 and RL26. The 10 twist limits my bullet selection, and since this is primarily a coyote rifle, that's why I chose the 87g VMAX. Thought I had a decent load with RL22 at 56g 3500-3525fps 1/2 MOA. Now its shooting all over the place.

I was shooting IMR4831 in my 24" Vanguard and getting sub MOA accuracy but ES was a little high and it's a temp sensitive powder. 53 grs, work up, was 3450-3475 with 87 VMax.

Believe it or not I found the 105 AMax stabilizes in my 10 twist and shoots 3250 with 54 grs of R26. Crazy accurate too. Might try that out if you ve got bullets/powder. You ll know with a couple 3 shot groups if your gun stabilizes/likes them. I shot mine at 300 yds when testing.

Good Luck.

They did for me. If you had an 8 twist barrel might be different but 10 twist worked well. That combo would yield right at 250,000 rpm. ( 3450 fps in a 10 twist)

Ya they're staying together from a 10 twist ok. I am about to try some H4831 and RL26 to see if itll be anymore consistent than RL22. Cant quite seem to get a load dialed in with it 150 rounds later. Having trouble finding the lands in the rifle. I come up with different measurements everytime. Dont know why this rifle is giving me so much trouble. Anyone else have a vanguard and see what the COAL is at the lands with a 87g VMAX? I have plenty of mag space to reach the lands. I've tried everything from 3.265" all the way down to 3.060" and everything in between. 3.190" with 56g RL22 at 3500-3525 was shooting decent for awhile, now all of a sudden the velocity is 75-100fps faster, leaving ejector Mark's, and accuracy went to ****. I usually load .010" off to start with in all my other rifles loads and usually do pretty well there. The method I've always used is the old school way of taking a fired case, pushing the neck in, stick the bullet in the case to where it holds, color the bullet with a black sharp and then chamber the round. The lands usually push the bullet back into the case to where you can see where you're at the lands, based off the scraping of the sharply. I cant get a consistent number with this **** thing. First go round was 3.265", next go round was 3.235", then 3.2" starting to get a little frustrated with it honestly. Seating them to Roy's spec at 3.060" shot about 1 MOA if I remember right. By the time I figure out this load for the rifle, the **** barrel will be 3/4 of the way shot out...

3.210 OAL ended up being the spot for my rifle (Vanguard) and 87 VMax. Like you I tried lots of different lengths to figure it out. One big help was the B&C alum block Alaskan II I put the gun in as I recall. The flexy factory stock just wasn't consistent.

BTW, I couldn't reach the lands with the 87 but when I tried the 105 AMax I could and still had plenty of bullet in case neck. My OAL on that is 3.35 and I m .0010 off the lands. It was easy to get that one shooting.

The 240 WB has more of a standard chamber and not all the freebore of the other Weatherbys.
