223 w/1-10 twist bullet recommendations

I have a Tikka T3 .223 1-10"
I'll be using it as a hunting rifle, primarily coyotes, raccoons and rabbits.
Thinking of trying a 55gr Nosler Balistic Tip to start reloading for it.
What do you think? Maybe try heavier or lighter?

Start with the 55's, you might be surprised, I've got a 222 with 1-9 its shoots everything from a 34 gr dogtown hp to a 65 gr Sierra game king, including all ballistic tip as well as the Barnes 62 gr tsx, all to the same point of impact

Thank you so much for proving twist rates are good generalities and not you must, have to, only can, use....name it. Try different things and use what works best for your wants. Ballistic Tips have shot well (some others do better but not across the board) in every gun I have ever tried them in except for my current custom 223.

Not sure the OP is still plugged in to this thread, but was wanting to hear his views on the Tikka 223 T3. I am considering getting a bolt action 223 to use up some of my 223 components. That is one caliber I have a stock pile of both factory ammo and reloading components. The well broken in Ruger SR556 is still shooting well, but I thought a bolt action in 223 would give me a chance to shoot more often without going through a $100 - $200 of components a day. Any thoughts on solid bolt 223 in the $500 - $1000 range. Recommended twist?

55gr is a good bullet weight in the 223 to balance speed and energy. The ballistic tips are great bullets due to the heavy base of the bullet they seem to penetrate well while also shedding a lot of energy. I'd also consider the 55gr Sierra gameking for coyotes they are wonderful bullets for maintaining integrity.

Take a look at the CZ 527, pre Biden they were very reasonable, my brother and his sons each have one and they all shoot the same load beyond reasonably well, 23 grs of H335 behind a 50 gr pill

My 527 has a 1 in 12 twist and will shoot 55 gr well. Shouldn't have any problems in a 1 in 10.

shooting 100-200 dollars up is the shooters fault...not shooting precision but blasting.
get a single shot follower for one of your mags, and work on some precision ammo.
some lapua match brass and some quality bullets. the 50 zmax's shot .204 for 5 shots out of an ar i have. quality bbl, not a chromed lined blaster, twist 12to 14, as long as you want...24" is good.
i have a 222 bolt but not a 223..

To clarify I was referring to shooting other hand loaded cartridges in 7RM and 308 to reach this $$ expenditure. It doesn't take that many rounds to reach that figure with price of components now days. My thoughts are to slow down on shooting multiple more expensive calibers and limit the blasting with the AR. I'm thinking I could work on my shooting form with a 223 in a decent bolt action with a varmint set up. This would also give me a better option for taking my daughters to the range to work on precision shooting. I should have started a new thread, but got lazy.
