Don,t panic" you are stiii ok.
If you have access to a NOSLER #5 reloading guide
there is a complete bullet seating depth procedure
on page 42 if not try this.
Take a fired case and with the expander plug removed
size only about one 1/8" of the neck.
Start the bullet to be used just enough to hold it in the
case.
Then very gently insert the case and the bullet into
the chamber and close the action .NOTE dont pull the triger
as this can move the round forward 3 or 4 thousants giving
you a false reading.
This dimension is max over all cartrige length with no freebore with this bullet (TO the ogive).
Now measure overall length of this round case head to buller tip.2.xxx Then subtract your max overall magazine
lenght and this will tell you how much freebore you will have if you load to a lengh that fits in your magazine,
NOTE: softnose bullets will allways vary in length thats why
you measure to the ogive.
All factory rifles limit overall cartrige length with the magazine to assure freebore, no freebore means higher pressures.
If you want the bullet closer to the lands you may have to
single load.
Remember this dimension will change with each bullet change
IE:60gr noz par to 60gr ballistic tip, or other brands and
weights.
Long winded I know but I hope this helps
