Ok guys this is my first alaskan hunt, and I bagged this beautiful caribou.
We went up the steese road at mm 144, tagged out on the first day.
I'm still currently in alaska and I'm going to continue to hunt moose and bear. I want to thank all of you that replied to my earlier posts on how and where to hunt these animals, and also on what gear to bring. Thanks guys.

Sorry about the poor quality pictures, I will post better ones as soon as I get home. For any one wandering I shot him with a 325 wsm 160 gr barnes ttsx at 500 yards.

I really appreciate the fact that you went the "DIY" route. Your on a real hunt. Congratulations on being successful.

Yeah, I'm cheap to. But I also enjoy every part of the hunt. From the hours and hours of planning and research, all the time it takes to get a tag which sometimes takes years, to the weeks of trying to make sure you have everything, to the long drive hoping you didn't forget to much, to the bad weather, and the exausting effort put into finding game, all the way to the heart stopping feeling of having the critter in your sights. I even enjoy the backbreaking pack out. "DIY" to me means real Hunter. It shows me somebody who truly loves to hunt. The "commercial" hunt, and the term "client", is a magor turn off to me. I would be really interested in sitting down and talking to you about your trip.

I did the Steese hunt in 2002, didn't time the migration right, but took a nice resident bull. Was stationed at Wainwright from 2000 to 2003. Took caribou & black bear, never tagged my moose. That hunt is in my future though. I agree with the diy hunt from start to finish, the satisfaction is unlike any other.
