2013 Mule Deer(longest kill yet)

I joined this site about a year ago and haved learned so much in such a short time. Never before had I taking a shoot over 300 yrds. Just didn't have the confidence. But this year was going to be different. Deer season in Kansas this year was my turn to prove what I could do. The second morning when we got up it was -20 with wind chill. That's **** cold for even NW Kansas. My dad, brother and drove out to a property we were hunting for the first time. The first draw we glassed a good buck was walking over the next ridge just as we got there. My dad and I decided to see if we could circle down wind and catch him in the bottom of the next draw. When we got to the vantage point we were after the buck was in the bottom with drinking out of the stock tank. I ranged him at 563 yrds. Keep in mind I had practiced out to 800 yrds all summer. I adjusted for a 10 mph wind and got ready for the shot. With my dad laying beside me telling me there was no way I could shoot that far. I told him just keep your eyes on buck. Squeezed one off and then hearing my dad say "You have got to be sh###ing me." That was like music to my ears. The buck was DRT. I just layed there taking it all in. It was not my biggest deer but I will never forget that day. I would like to thank everyone on this site for all the knowledge and education you have shared. Without you guys this would have been a lot harder to accomplish. Thanks again.

congrats logan, that is a nice buck and even better shooting. go easy on him guys! at least he got it on the website right. I would probably have been so excited, I would have screwed up, and posted on PETA's website! thank you for sharing your hunt with all of us.

The best group I got at 800 was right at 5 or 6 in 3 shoot group. I was using a 24 in x 24 in home made gong.

I would also like to add in my defense I was writing my story with my 3 yr old daughter jumping up and down on my back wanting a horse ride. Not that easy to type on a phone or pay close attention to detail with that going on. Here is a picture of her shooting her first (play) rifle Christmas morning out my front window at the squirrels. With my dogs watching.

Tpichevy, I stand corrected just went out to my shed to measure my 800 gong for sure since it was the last one I shot before deer season and my last 3 shot group was just over 4 in. I have some Sierra 135 gr matchking to load up for this summer's practice so it will be fun to see how they do. At this point the gun is still more accurate than I am but I aim to fix that.
