200 grain 6.5 revisited (Attention Elkaholic, and Hammer)

.......I remember reading somewhere that Elmer Keith ? not 100% sure if him ... did a bit of expirimenting with duplex and triplex powder charges, seems like the practice was not recommended for the typical reloader.......

The duplex as I understand it was the front ignition. I don't recall what it was called, but Elmer and others were prone to putting a few grains of Bullseye in the base of the case, and filling in the rest with whatever rifle powder they were working with.

I fired one such load without knowing what had been done. Good fortune locked it up before the old guy loading got hurt. Didn't take many.

A lot of this going around in this part of the world. Waiting on a little global warming, to make hanging targets a little more achievable. 50 feet of shop just not working for this one.

Got a rifle, scope, and a bullet.

Hoping to do some initial load work this weekend! We have one of the original rifles from 8 years ago with a 7 twist that we will try the 137g Hammer Hunter with along with @HARPERC 's rifle with the 6" twist. Had to knock the dust off the old one!

We have Ramshot LRT now, that was not available before. Could work with the light bullets. US869 was about all we had and it was just too un stable in the huge overbore when used at top end loads. Loaded very mild it was controllable.

A couple of rounds down range. A couple of issues in the action needed attention. One being the feeding with CRF, and single loading a different cartridge case. Changing to the appropriate follower is working. Moved from a 14# firing pin spring to an 18#. Firing pin hole may also need attention.

One bullet hole at 200 yards was a little oblong. Next step catching a bullet for closer exam to see what can be seen that needs a tweak.
