.20 Tactical - thoughts?

Wow that's cooking. Did the Bergers stay together? Any of them come apart in the air?
All stayed together. 8.5twist...I have used 11 twist for the 20 Practical with 32-40g bullets, 10 twist for my 20 BRA 40g and 8.5twist for the CM and GT loads with 55g.

I looked at bunch of 20 cal wild cats. I decided on a 20 Practical. Glad I did too, easy to make cases and accurate as hell. My bud decided to go the VarTarg route. While I am crankin out ammo he's havin problins makin brass. 20 P is the easiest conversion out there.
I just go 204R
Standard chamber standard brass standard dies. Easy!

I have both a .20 Practical in a 20" AR and .204 Ruger in a 22" bolt.

Using 40 grain bullets in both and they are running within 50-75 ft/sec with the .204R being a little faster.

I think the best argument for .20 practical comes down to three main points:

Better quality brass available for .223 (to form into .20P) vs .204 Ruger such as Lapua.

Cheaper brass available in .223 (surplus).

Nearly identical dimensions as .223 for ideal fit into an AR.

The only case I've ever ripped the rim off resulting in a stuck case is .204 Ruger and it's happened twice. I don't know if the rim is a bit smaller/weaker compared to .223 or if it was just a coincidence.

.223 brass and the ease of forming it made my mind up for the .20 Practical. A friend let me form some of my range brass with his .20 Tactical dies. It's not hard to do but I like the simplicity of the .20 Practical.

I have had bags of Winchester 204R brass on back order for 2 years.

Mike, what is your intended use of the new 20 pipe dream? Coyotes, p. dogs, paper, etc?

It takes speed to get those 55's to open up at a distance or just punch a hole, something to think about. A good friend got away from the 20 BR for coyotes due to gimpers, and this man can shoot like few can.

I waited for a few to see how much support for the 20 Practical.

I have a 20 Practical and would recommend it over the Tactical all day.

Easy brass. Same velocity (but for a bit). Fine, fine accuracy.
