16 for 17 alliant

Other than temp sensitivity is 16 a good replacement for 17 with ~velocity numbers? I have a fair amount of 19 and less than 2# of 17 and haven't pulled the trigger on 16 yet. 17 is great in 7-08 and a few other caliber cartridge combos, but...........

As far as a good replacement..I don't know why 16 wouldn't do as good or better.

I shoot a lot of 16 in a couple 6mm's and 270 win's, and if there's a better powder in those cartridge's for speed, temp sensitivity and accuracy I'm all ears.

RL16 is one of the best most consistent powers i have used but it will not match RL17 in the velocity department, at least a 50fps loss.

I shoot 16 in 30-06 pushing 150's and 300 WSM pushing 180's. I think its a great temp stable powder.

In my 7mm-08, 16 was on par in the accuracy department with 17 for my 145 LRX loads. Both were approaching Alliants recommended max loads in their tables.
17 clocked at 2925 (.20")
16 clocked at 2890 (.175")

Worked up to these loads and stopped when the groups tightened up.
