I took my 13 year old out with his cow tag Saturday morning. It would be his first big game animal. He is an excellent shot and shoots 2000 yards all the time with my 18 lb. and 13 lb. Edges. We located a herd that was 1090 yards away in a canyon. They were bedded but kept getting covered by clouds. I set him up prone with the heavy gun with a bipod and rear shooting bag and dialed up 25.75 MOA and 1 MOA left for spin drift. There was no wind. When the clouds lifted they were getting up and heading for some brush. I picked one that was quartering up and away and gave him the green light. My friend was spotting for us and watched the trace of the 300 SMK all the way there. It entered the right flank and went all the way up into and broke it's neck. When I cut the head off I found that all of the stomach contents were shoved up into its wind pipe.
After the shot I told him how cool that was and he acted like it was no big deal. Like that's just what you do. He has grown up around long range shooting and doesn't know any different. I asked if he was shaking or nervous when he shot and he said "no, it was just like shooting at rocks". I think I've met my match :)

Nice shooting.

Now i'm afraid of missing in front of him and then he would think he was top dog :). I'm pretty proud of him.

I suspect it won't belong before military recruiters start calling about opportunities down the road.

This was a great shot. Congratulations.
