107gr SMK in a 1:9 twist 243

just wondering if anyone knows if my 1:9 or (1:9.25) twist barrell will stablize the 107 gr smk's I know they say they are build for a 1-8 twist....but I would like some real world imput. also does anyone know what the twist of a 2007 model 12 vlp savage 243 is I am finding different things some resources say 1-9 some say 1-9.25, im not sure how much difference .25 makes but it would be nice to know. if the 107's will not stablize who has tried the 95gr smk or the 105 amax, I know the amax is build for a 1-9, and the 95's are pretty new so everyones input is appericiated

yes my savage does the 107's and 105's well push em 3000fps no problems

The 1-9 is my standard recommended twist rate to my customers for the 105 gr Berger, A-Max and 107. That said, I generally build larger 6mm rounds using these bullets such as the 243 AI, 6-284, 6-06 class stuff. For the smaller 6mm, such as the PPC, BR, Dasher and 6-250, I would recommend a 1-8 just to make sure it would work in all conditions.

The 243 is kind of in the middle ground. Very likely it will work as mentioned, get the velocities up where you can and you should be fine. In some locations you may see some long range consistancy issues but for the most part I would think it would work well.

Where are you located Lefty? Altitude?

I ask because the 107smk in 9.25 wouldn't work well here on the coastline. Neither would 105Lapuas.
Berger 105s would be fine though.

Im from southern Alberta Canada at one range the elevation is around 2950ft and the other is around 3600ft temps ranging from -15c to +25 ( when I would be shooting anyways) actual range -40c to +40c

Your altitude makes a big diference, but if your twist is actually 9.25, the 107 may not shoot well when it's cold(your kind of cold).
