We are pleased to announce a significant update to our flagship platform, AB Quantum™, featuring powerful new capabilities such as Weapon Employment Zone Analysis (WEZ), Custom Drag Factor (CDF), and expanded compatibility with Kestrel® 5700/5700X LiNK models. With a long-standing reputation for innovation in long-range shooting, we continue to advance the field with this release. More than a routine upgrade, this update delivers a significant leap forward in ballistic technology, offering shooters enhanced information regarding precision and increased connectivity to products within the Applied Ballistics ecosystem. It may take up to 3 days for all users to access the new features.

When our initial truing capabilities were introduced in 2012, reliable and accurate chronographs were not as readily available as they are today. As a result, we adopted the "true muzzle velocity (MV) first" policy that has guided our practices for the past twelve years. However, with the emergence of advanced Doppler radar-based chronographs, such as the Garmin Xero C1, Labradar and Speedtracker, precise muzzle velocity measurements have become far more accessible.

Given the ability to measure MV accurately, there is now less necessity for MV truing, and any discrepancies in the ballistic solution are likely attributable to other factors. As such, the updated truing policy introduces three options for truing drop data: MV Truing, Custom Drag Factor (CDF) Scaling, and Drop Scale Factor (DSF). By providing these expanded options, shooters can now choose the optimal truing method for their ballistic solution, regardless of the support equipment available to them.

Truing Options:

When you initiate the truing for the first time, all three options are available: MV Truing, CDF Truing, and DSF Truing. However, after the initial truing process, subsequent truing at extended ranges should be limited to DSF. This is because DSF is the only method that can be defined in a piecewise manner without disrupting previous calibrations. Guidance for Truing Selection

We offer two levels of guidance to assist you in selecting the appropriate truing variable:
  • General Guidance: Choose to true the variable in which you have the least confidence.
  • Detailed Guidance:
    • Select MV Truing only if you do not have access to an accurate (Doppler) chronograph during the truing process.
    • If you have an accurate chronograph but are not using a bullet from the library, or if you have not verified scope tracking, DSF should be selected.
    • If you have an accurate chronograph and are using a bullet from the library but have not verified scope tracking, DSF is recommended.
    • If you have an accurate chronograph and are not using a bullet from the library but have verified scope tracking, DSF remains the appropriate option.
    • Only if all three conditions—accurate chronograph, bullet from the library, and verified scope tracking—are met should you opt for Drag Function Scaling.

Would be great if the app was actually better.
This app is completely over complicated and now annoying. Half the time can't get it to give a solution. Now it's stuck on a drop card and I have clicked ever combination of things to get it off that. Even changing profile just shows me a solution in a drop card. I can't input ranges even.
I was happy with how simple and easy the old app was. I know I sound old but sometimes simplicity is nice in a hunting situation.

Is there a KISS model? 🤣

Kestrel is the easy button, Im getting there but it's a serious struggle, it's lost it's intuitive function but over time it'll be OK. Some times I feel I'm getting it then a week goes by and it's starting all over.
That's my problem. I don't want to add another product or app. I need a simple shooting app. This new in no way functions easy or even correctly. I wish they would have launched it separate and let us choose if and when to update. Having it update while on a trip to Texas was more than frustrating. Here I get all the way up to a good vantage point, get everything setup. Open my app to find out I can't even get it to spit out a solution.
Let's just say it's the one trip I look forward to the most because I can long range a bunch of pigs and other critters. Not the one and done elk or deer.
Needless to say I was a little upset with the new program.

I'm sure I'll get it figured out and they will fix a lot of issues but man it is frustrating. Especially considering this was my favorite shooting solution by far.
