Over the holidays I tasted a several different whiskeys. Let me start by saying I don't have any $200 bottles. I am not willing to wait in line and I don't have any whiskey store connections.
I really like Russell's single barrel, Green River Full Proof, Elijah Craig Single Barrel, old grand-dad 114. I have always liked WT 101 but I have to say, I have been reaching for old grand-dad 114 more than WT 101.
My wife really likes Eagles Rare, Old Forester 1910, 1792 single barrel and Woodford. I like these as well, except for the Woodford. I like the smell of Woodford but not the oak tased. Keep in mind I have only had the entry level Woodford.
I know everyone's palate is different, but I was really surprised how much I liked old granddad 114. For $28 to $34 a bottle, I was impressed. I have only had it neat, but I made my wife old fashioned and she really liked it. Don't let the 114 proof scare you off. It is not has harsh some people suggest, IMO.
