Like a lathe? A action wrench? A reamer?Hello everyone! I have been thinking about rebarreling my my older rem 700. I was thinking of a rem/age and doing it myself. Is there any place that a person can rent the tools to do this job? Thank you for any ideas.
We have a good friend that teaches how to chamber a barrel. If you bring your barrel, Action, Reamer if Bob doesn't already have one or rent a reamer. He will do a great job in helping you out.Hello everyone! I have been thinking about rebarreling my my older rem 700. I was thinking of a rem/age and doing it myself. Just a precaution, I know the guys are making seem super easy, but have a good vice too.Awesome!, yes just a spin on RemAge barrel. Looking to change from 30-06 to 25-06 Ackley improved or a 35 whelen. Two different sides of the spectrum, trying to decide.
Thanks guys
Great advice. I think alot of those videos show them "removing" the barrel after they've already had it off.Just a precaution, I know the guys are making seem super easy, but have a good vice too.
The tools you need are not very expensive. You may want to give these guys a call. I personally haven't sourced any of my build parts from them but I have a buddy who did and they are very helpful in sorting through the process of what you want.Awesome!, yes just a spin on RemAge barrel. I hear you, I saw a video the other night and the guy said you can do this job in 15 minutes. I hate when they say stuff like that, not even feasible at least by me. I know it would take me a long time, I'm no machinist or pro at anything but I do take my time and very meticulous when it comes to this kind of project.Just a precaution, I know the guys are making seem super easy, but have a good vice too.
If the factory barrel, especially if on the older Remingtons have never been taken off, good chance it's on super tight AND cold welded.
Some guys get it off real easy, some guys have to fight tooth and nail to get the old barrel off. Sometimes heat works, sometimes it doesn't.
With the remage barrel you'll also need a savage barrel nut wrench and make sure you know if the barrel with that nut will fit into the stock you intend to use…
What can1010 said.for doing a REM/AGE barrel swap you can rent the tools and go gauge from 4D reamer rentals and there is plenty of videos on youtube for the do-it-yourself crowd. removing the old barrel will be the hardest part.
exactly. took a barrel off a tikka today and had a 4 bolt barrel vise holding the barrel and an action wrench with a 2ft cheater that I put under my armpit and let my 200+ lbs do the work vise is a mustGreat advice.
