Elkwonder, are you 100% set on that one particular rifle? It seems to me, that it might be better to narrow down your choices to the cartridges you most one. Then, find a rifle chambered in those cartridges. Just a thought. My two cents worth.

Best you'll get is 150'ish grain with Creedmoor. ..then check muzzle velocity out of 16" barrel.308 with 165 cup-n-core over CFE223 and go get whatever you need at the distance you mentioned.

Heavies with short barrel is the 308's playground for short distances and big game.
I'm big with the 308 crowd for the spec's the OP set, no questions.
If we could change cartridges/chambering the 338 FEDERAL will outperform the 308 to 300 yards with a 180, it's an accurate hammer. Same case, same recoil but larger bores have powder efficiency.
