I disagree, you can go off trader history. If a user has none (including you) I'm not giving you anything. If you're an honest contributing member of the community than the honest contributing members know you and generally provide feedback on your trader history. Even of you pay to have privileges it doesn't prove your an honest contributing member of the community. I feel bad for members who have been scammed but we need to be diligent with our efforts on who we send money to. If this isn't proof that money orders are not safer than electronic payments I don't know what it. The re-occuring theme i see is non active members.
USPS MO as well? If so, you guys might have a better chance getting something done together.

Trader history is good to check, but doesn't always reflect all transactions.
I give positive feedback for every single transaction I am involved in. But only about 40% return the favor.
But I check every potential seller. If they don't have positive feedback by a known member (that I contact and verify myself), I pass on the deal. Some guys light up their own account with some no-name members they probably create themselves just to look legit.

For the new members that want to do business, easy solution. I have dealt with some new ones with no history on big items like EL's and such. I told them to ship to me and once received and as described payment would go out. Honesty prevailed, items were shipped and full payment received by seller once I was satisfied. If they don't want to earn their reputation, I move on.
I have done trades and sales the same way with insufficient feedback on one side.
Sees though most get scammed by posting "want to buy adds". Then they get contacted and it all begins. If I'm buying something and they don't have solid feedback I'll just pass on the deal. Also, I need pictures of what I'm buying otherwise they can go pound sand, even if they have fantastic feedback.
