Any New Rifles with Long Coals?

3.5" of mag box may not be long enough for what some folks want to do but the saami max spec for the 28 Nosler is 3.34 inches. So, an additional .135 over saami spec with .025 allowance for feeding is not exactly a failing solution.

Other than 50 BMG based cartridges or international 50 BMG equivalents, there is no cartridge I am aware of with a Saami spec greater than 3.7 inches. So sure, loading long is very popular and is useful but at what cost and effort do you got to increase the COAL specification by over 1/2 an inch.

3.34+.135 = 3.475. A berger 190 1.61 inches. The neck shoulder junction on a 28 Nosler is @ 2.314. 3.475-2.314 = 1.161. That leaves .449 protruding below the neck/shoulder junction. .449 is 28% of the 190 grain berger.

our most accurate loads with 175eh, 180hyb and 195 were with a coal of 3.630+, but that is my fault for ordering a custom reamer from jgs. i built a friend a 28 on a tikka cause he shoots factory ammo and it worked great. i just prefer a bit more room. not saying you're wrong

The Seekins Havak long action, with the carbon fiber magazines are listed at 3.9". Probably have to find a really good sales price or a used one to get it into the "affordable" category for a donor rifle. Depending on how much of it you reused.

The 28 Nosler saami spec chamber will allow a 166 A-Tip to be loaded to right at 3.65" and just touch the rifling on my X-Bolt.

The saami spec chamber isn't all that bad on a 28 Nosler (quite good actually) and if I were to build a Rem 700 I'd likely do a Wyatt's extended box if I were to shoot the 180/190/195 class bullets.
