6.5 Grendel

A 1 in 8 20 inch barrel can be a little fickle with 120 and 123 grain bullets. Bill Alexander found that the 1 in 9 twist was much more forgiving and easier to get loads with that class of bullet. I put a tuner on my 1 in 8, 20" and it now shoots 123 eldm's very well. It has been accurate from the start with 129 accubond long range bullets. The 1 in 8 seems a bit better suited to 129-130s for the most part in the 20" barrel. That doesn't mean it wont shoot 123s. You may just have to work a little harder to find the right load.

lighten the buffer,3oz maybe
It is 3.9 now.

Was told by Sanders to go heavier. More kinetic energy to drive it better. Was also told my go/no go gauges weren't right either??? Would not go into battery with a go gauge. He said they air gauge and gauge them all before they leave the shop. It chambers ammo fine and the brass does not look like it has excessive pressure or that the head space is too tight. On a bolt gun, I would be able to tell.

Most every one of the Grendel's I have shot has taken a little break-in and a fair amount of lubrication on the BCG to begin with. I will hand cycle a new rifle quite a bit also.
I have an AR 10 in 308 that is around 6 moa with Nosler 150 Accubonds. With AR comp and 168s it'll put 3 shots into 3/8 inch and 5 into a 1/2".
I would certainly be concerned though for a Grendel that won't do better than that with your ammo choice. That Hornady ammo should also be providing all the gas necessary for a properly set up Grendel.

if it were "excessive" pressure then it would (in most cases) override/not pick up the bolt catch/next round. both grendels i have (odin & anderson) took 100+ rounds to start functioning normally. both are 8 twist in the 20 and 24" and i use hornady 123 factory ammo. where did you get the go/no-go's from? here's another thought!

was the bolt only from sanders or was it a complete bcg?

Gauges are Manson.

Complete upper from Sanders.

Shot is yesterday again. Same issues with same class bullets. 4-6" groups at its best. Even changed out the scope to see if that was issue. Nope.

160 rounds down it now, so barrel is broke in. Going to try some of the lightweights to see if it even shoots those. However I didn't get an 8 twist to shoot 95gr varmint grenades.

Definitely sounds like a barrel issue! OR, it just hates the ammo as with all barrels. I'll check which 2 Hornady 123's i have as they should be a-max and sst's, but not sure if 1 or both are match. A-max would make sense on match, but not on the sst's. Check with Hornady about recalls. Is it throated enough for the 123's as I've had 1 barrel that wasn't. I don't believe headspace is an issue, only the barrel not liking the factory ammo and not necessarily the bullets. I'm a 26cal fanatic and have an exuberant amount of those pills. What is your intention with this rifle? I have nearly every brand and style of bullets (no a-tips) you could try (also no hammers). I have from 90-150 grainers fmj, match, vld, gummy tips and solids.

So far it does not like:

Horns 123 Black
Horns 123 SST
PSA 123 OTM
PSA 123 Sabre (just a Horns with a black tip)
PPU 120 OTM

Was told to take off brake so I did, no improvement. Told to shoot 95-113gr ammo, so I will, if no joy, it will go back.

Guess it serves me right for wanting a gas gun other than a 5.56.
