Guides are paying the ranchers $350 a pig to ranchers dealing with an invasive species under depredation permits. Meanwhile the wolf population is about to explode. Maybe the lion and the wolves will fight it out to the death?

Stumpy, we knew things were headed down hill when the Tejon started requiring the use of non-lead ammo. They said it was because it was part of the traditional kalyfornya condor area and that the lead could do harm if the condors ate a gut pile. I remember talking to one of the state biologist on the ranch that was involved in that program. I ask him if the lead ammo would really impact their survival. He said that it was basically a "feel good" requirement. He also told me that the last condor they found dead , died because it ate a friggin spark plug which they found during the necropsy. I guess if you are that stupid, you are destined to become extinct.

It might be a good idea for some of the anti-science folks on this site to review the literature on environmental lead themselves. There's more than enough evidence to support regulating lead bullets and shot, and plenty of articles and studies to educate yourself. Not anti science by any stretch and certainly not saying you are wrong, but have always been a little suspect of any research or reports being released by a government with an anti gun agenda.

It seems a little odd to accuse a government agency of having an anti-gun agenda when, it you think about it, just about every employee of state wildlife agencies wears a gun when out in the field, and many are avid hunters.

Just because they carry guns doesn't mean they want us to do the same.

I have a buddy in Coalinga that is doing guided hunts. Pm me I can give you his number or yours to him. If you want to do a dog hunt I'll bring mine up. I believe they have cabins for the customer and provide food. I don't know the cost but could find out.

I'm not trying to get in a urinating contest with anyone but this is not really a relevant statement to my point. Enforcing any type of statute, state or federal law often puts enforcers in danger regardless of their governing body's agenda and they need to be armed. I lived and retired from LE in kalyfornya. I then worked for a major gun company and dealt with CA Fish and Game for many years at all levels. I did a tremendous amount of training for them and most were pretty good guys and I remain friends with a couple of them. You are correct that many are avid outdoorsmen and hunters. At the higher levels of that organization as well as with the state, you could definitely see the very obvious anti gun political agenda and before I finally escaped that state it was starting to trickle down to the front line troops. Some believed that only they should have guns. The old school guys I still dealt with were looking forward to retirement.

Your personal experiences do offer support for your argument, but your accusation seems to need some clarification. So, exactly what policy decisions qualify as being "anti-gun", and what is your idea of the term? I suspect there's a bit of over generalizing happening with the anti "anti-gun" folks. I would suggest that simply because someone, group, or agency supports universal background checks, non-lead ammunition, etc., it does not mean they want to deprive gun owners of their 2nd amendment right to own firearms, or take away their guns. This, clearly, is what the definition of "anti-gun" should be.

Nature Conservancy manages Dye Creek Preserve in Tehama County. I believe you can apply for guided hunts thru CDFW. You might contact them for details. I've spent several weeks there on different occasions, and Dye Creek is an amazing place. I was mostly interested in its coyotes and deer at the time, but the hogs there were impressive. Good luck!

Actually I'm from Missouri but had the misfortune of living and having a career there about 20 years ago. I escaped from there and haven't looked back. I now live in Idaho and love every minute of it. The only thing I miss about kalyfornya is my lime tree.

Filming entrance (exit 207 from I-5) up Bear Trap Cyn. Quonset hut hard to miss us on your right while on the main road up to Purdy Ridge. My grandfather and his buddies acquired the property somewhere around 1925 - passed down father to son. Nobody's there ever, it's like California 100 years ago. The Ranch, though, is no friend to us.

Got it. Not where I thought but I do know where that part of the ranch is. We usually came in from the Palmdale side through the White Oak area. The only time I came out through the valley or I-5 side is when we got stuck up there during a snow storm or heavy rain. It was a great place way back when, but really turned before I decided it was time to give up. I loved shooting ground squirrels in Little Tejon Canyon or down by the orchards.
