New Member from Michigan - planning for my first "long" range hunt

I havent tried to buy or sell anything off anyone, so not sure what you're getting at...just trying to get advice on a future hunting trip and a rifle build.

You're welcome to google my username, Im active on snipershide, rokslide, accurateshooter, michigan gun owners, michigan sportsman, arfcom etc and use the same exact username on every single one of those forums, along with reddit.

I've made a big mistake by making an introduction post..?

Where I live is what's know as below the shotgun line. It's now called limited rifle. Everyone in this area calls it straightwall, because that's what cartridges are legal in this area. Sorry if that somehow offended you.

Maybe the issue here is you've made the mistake of accusing someone of being a scammer, based off literally nothing, and rather than acting like a respectable adult, you're now doubling down on the assumption you made to begin with.

Amazing how hard it is to be respectable online.

Hey all,
New here from Michigan. This is my second season deer hunting, got into shooting bolt actions about 4 years ago now, and even more time spent with ARs and handguns previously.

Looking to get started on the information and possibly the equipment I need for an Elk hunt. Would love to do this next year. Looking forward to learning from all of you!
Start with Good boots!

If I may……unless you have previous experience with "long range" shooting, can you acquire sufficient proficiency with only one year of training/practice. Perhaps, your first priority may be to determine what "long range" means to you.

I mention this as where I grew-up, 100 yards was a long shot…..moving to Wyoming gave me a whole new perspective on long shots!

Also, the type of hunt you intend to do should be known. Will it be a physical hunt for you…..the hunter. If so, the weight of your equipment (rifle and associated equipment) needs to be considered.

Will it be a fully guided hunt in which the outfitter/guide uses pack animals……greatly reducing the physical work that will required of you!

These things will help determine the type of firearm and cartridge you will want to use. memtb

Amen! The 2 most important things that a "do it yourself " hunter needed……I learned from an experienced Wyoming native.

* Good boots…. If your feet start hurting badly, you can't cover the miles required.

* Good Sleeping bag…..if you're not getting good rest, after 2 or 3 days, you will not be nearly as alert efficient as you need to be! memtb

What put me off was you saying Michigan was a straight wall state when it's not . Now you corrected yourself , so ok ,if it was an honest mistake , I get it .

It's the little things that give it away .
And yes , I'm a cynical old guy , but the jury's still out .

Welcome !

That's the worst apology I've ever seen.

I don't know about elk, but that 350 legend is a solid 300 yd deer round.

Not sure that the 350 will do 300 yards. Will it kill at 300 sure perfect placement and punch a 35 cal hole. But most bullets drop below the min fps to open at 225 yards or less. I have got zero bullets to open at 300 yards. Killed a few deer close to that but bullet never opened.

I can vouch for him almost everyone like myself that lives south of 57 line. Refers to it as shotgun or straight wall state.

Happens all the time here. I might point out how backward our dnr is. Between this stupid requirement for "safety" and the lack of being able to figure out how to gain hunters.

These morons can't take a **** without getting it all over themselves.
When every other state keeps gaining hunters we keep losing them at a rapid rate. Yet they can't figure out why?
Anyway rant over.

He doesn't seem like a bot.
