In this day of specialty equipment, $500 ice chests and what sometimes appears to be a strong prejudice towards "because this item is the most expensive" it must be the best , I thought a fun thread on "Gear Hacks", "Dual Purpose/Multi Use", "Great Values" and "Rarely Leave Camp Without it" would be fun:

A few of mine:

1) small waterproof dry back for spare socks, gloves, and other soft items clipped to the outside of my pack to be used as a rear bag.
2) Heavy duty oversized contractor clean up bags in my pack can be used as ground cover for extensive glassing in damp environments or unexpected long stays, for laying out game quarters to keep clean, or an emergency poncho
3) Frito's corn chips, high calorie emergency food (unhealthy point in an emergency especially cold weather calories are calories) and the fact content is so high they make very good fire starter
4) Gerry Venture fleece lined hiking pants - $30
5) Toe warmers - put them in every morning and evening, allows me to wear lighter boots and I have never said "gosh my feet are to warm on an alpine hunt in the fall"
6) Mushroom shaped drawer pool affixed to the top of my pack shoulder strap to keep my sling from slipping of my shoulder.
7) Surveyors tape for route or blood trail marking.
