Gotcha so it's the front rails that are the issue. RatsIf going from standard bolt (.473") to magnum bolt (.532") has a few issues. Rails at the rear of both are identical, but on the magnum action, rails at the front are wider to facilitate feeding from both left and right of the mag box, this can cause cartridges to hit the front of the barrel and jam, as the timing is wrong and cartridges do not glide over the feed ramp, they jump it.
I always advise against doing this unless you know a 'smith that can do it correctly.
The Wyatt's box is no issue.
Cheers.
It doesn't happen with every conversion, cartridges like 264WM, 257 Weatherby & 270 Weatherby often work without a hitch, but full length cartridges like 300 Weatherby, 7 STW and the like often cause issues, cases like 375 Weatherby/416 Remington will hit the barrel face while feeding.Gotcha so it's the front rails that are the issue. I'm just getting into reloading. Hate i can't get ammo at the store easily thoughDo you reload? If you do, have you thought about going with a 280AI? It would be just a simple rebarrel and you would get similar performance to the PRC and RM.
Ya that's the round I bought my 30-06 to convert toJust an FYI, in my 280AI with a 26" barrel I am shooting 175 Bergers at 2930fps and 145 Tipped Hammers at 3190fps. Uses less powder than the RM and PRC.
That's a good choice.Ya that's the round I bought my 30-06 to convert to
