I can duplicate any configuration. It's easiest to start with an existing stock as a pattern. In my case I converted a short action to an XM action on my pattern stock, widened the barrel channel, and added some bondo here and there to adjust the comb, etc., so it took some extra work.

My dad was a stock maker , his patterns were undersized in the action and barrel channel , that has to be hand lnletted . I have inletted quite a few and that is what makes or break a custom stock , no matter how beautiful the wood . I have a friend that sends his wood blanks off to a guy in California I will try and get that info and post it later.

Hard rock, thanks for the information. I'll check them out. With all the smiths using some kind of composite stocks today most of the great craftsmen are gone.

I have a friend doing 2 piece shotgun stocks and he's doing a good job, learning every day.

My dad was a real craftsman , he started out making stocks entirely by hand with a wood rasp and also hand checkered . His hand checkering was flawless , he did what you call no bordering checkering , the broader is used to hide runouts ,he had no runouts , he was a true master stockmaker . The guy I referred you to and I've seen is work is pretty darn good in comparison and has some nice Mauser patterns etc.
