Have been saving up and am planning to upgrade my optics. Would enjoy hearing your opinion on these options.

Before we start, a few things:
1. My current tools are a set of vortex vanquish binos and an sig bushmaster 1500 rangefinder. I've actually been very effective with this combo for bow hunting and rifle out to 600 yards. But just saying - the bar is pretty low here.
2. Im poor :) My budget is $800, and this took a year of saving. Please don't advise me to "save up" for a higher budget option (if you do I'll PM you my PayPal info and ask you for a donation, lol).
3. I hunt tough, nasty terrain, and my stuff takes a beating. For this reason, I like "no questions asked" warrenties on most things.

My current thoughts are either
1. Vortex Razor HD 4000 rangefinder+ Diamondback HD 12x50 binos
2. Vortex Fury 5000 HD 10x42 rangefinding binos

I'm fine using my sig 1500 for ranging bow hunting shots. It's a little questionable for rifle shots up to 800 yards, though, hence the upgrade. It would also be nice to see if I'm looking at a legal buck (3pt or better) at longer distances. My trijicon tenmile 5-25 scope is enough glass to do this, but it would be nice to have some binos that'll at least give me an idea whether it's worth getting the rifle out.

I have the Fury rangefinding bino. Absolutely love them. The work amazing....big game is a no brainer. Where they are especially effective is shooting prairie dogs. Glass and range ... shoot. Otherwise you glass...try to find dogs with range finders. Then dog moves. Relocate...much faster with the fury

3 votes for the fury 5000. Sounds like a pretty clear winner! Of course, I'll still have to play with it and see if I like it. Seems like they resell pretty well in the PX if I wind up hating them, but something tells me that won't happen.

I have the fury 5000AB as well as the viper hd. I don't know if I just got lucky or what but I really like the hd for just glassing. That being said for shooting the furrys are way better. I just don't like the blue color i guess.

Nothing wrong with that budget you can get good quality optics within that range - don't be afraid to look for lightly used for someone that maybe upgrading. I've lived with many vortex models for years and still have some that reside in my truck for random occasions and upstairs by the window to look out at the cattle or critters in the back pasture. You don't have to own 2-3k worth of optics - my wife still chooses to use a pair of razors over all others because they are LW and crystal clear!

If you want a light edge look for used razors, range finders can be found easy and affordable.

I've got the Fury 5000 AB's. My honest opinion is they're probably good enough in what they do, that you won't "need" to upgrade. The thing I don't love about them is the faint bluish tint on the lense. There's been times, especially glassing thicker hillsides in overcast conditions, I have to really slow down so I don't miss stuff. Because to my eyes things kind of blend together. To me, where these excel is getting your solution and getting on your trigger. It is just fast. They really help in those situations where you don't have a lot of time to get your shot off. Then again we all could just memorize our dope :)

Thanks. Yeah I'm limited to the non-ab model due to budget. But I have my dope more or less memorized and also taped to my stock, so AB would just be kind of a cool toy.

Yeah, the blue tint is what I'm worried about. I guess I'll just have to see if it bugs me. My problem is that I'll be comparing them to my vortex vanquish binos. Compared to those, it's probably great blue tint or no. May see if one of my buddies at work can bring in a pair of $200-$300 binos for comparison. That's the standard I'd judge them against.

I'd look around slightly above your price range as well and be ready to buy on Black Friday if the sale brings it in your price range, I'm already seeing %15 off vortex at eurooptic and sig is also having a sale already.

I ran some 10x42 vortex diamondbacks and an sig rangefinder that was less than $150 when I bought it for a long time. Served me well on a couple archery elk hunts and lots of deer whackin around home.

I bought the fury AB early this year and i really like them for rifle hunting but still used my old setup for bow season. I haven't noticed the tint some people talk about but I've never looked through any swarovskis either so I can't compare. I wanted the AB but like you I have my dopes handy all the time and haven't even messed with setting them up. I think part of that is I still use StrelokPro and haven't gotten familiar with the AB app.

Any ideas? Looking at reviews, seems like it's either $800 fury's, or a jump to at least $1500 for the next step up.
