I can buy 2 box of 175 eldx to 1 box of berger eol 195. For hunting elk/mule deer in colorado. Is there a huge difference in performance to justify the burger 195? Max shot from 7prc would be less than 800 yards, hopefully half that distance. 500 eol berger 343 plus tax
500 eldx 151 plus tax.

Oh yes
They kill very well

I have always been a hornday eldx fan trying berger out so I know very little about the berger line. This bullet your talking about They call a target/match bullet not a hunting bullets. You have first hand hunting experience with this. If I'm using a match bullet I would expect the hornady atip to do as well as this target match bullets of berger again much cheaper. I do know the atip falls apart if it hits bone and not great expansion if it hits meats only, does berger target bullets do the same?

Seen the 180 hybrids dump a yukon moose and grizzly this year at 700 plus yards
I shot a mtn goat a month ago at 1060 with the 200.20x and a roosevelt elk last year at 15 yards
They work great at close and long range
Im not a hornady fan, ive found they require extra shots too oftern

That's also why I'm trying berger. Had issues with my eldx not expanding. Thanks for the info.

If I ever switch to a 7prc I would try the 195's because I have 1,000 of them but I have seen a cpl guys who kill a lot of Elk saying the 180 hybrid/vld's work better/more consistent than the 195 eol.

I have 300 eol 195 on hand, they shoot very well. I have no experience with killing anything with them. Even other saying the 180, I will also be trying the 195. I like to always shoot the same bullet playing around as I do hunting. So the 197 at 70 cents add up pretty fast compared to any of the horandy line normally the 175 eldx at 32 cents.. guessing I will be.going eol 195 from this point. My last load with n570 and the 195 eol out of my 7prc was 2950 and .3 moa at 100 yards. Again just not killing on them yet.

Just for reference, I shot my mule deer with the 166gr Atip this year (MV - 3005fps). Hit him on the run at 280. Was aiming for the base of his skull but this being my first shot on a running critter, my shot hit his right hind quarter. I couldn't find the bullet but that Atip destroyed that hind quarter almost completely. The shock knocked him clean off his feet!
All that to say, I think the Atip works very well on deer-size game, but I didn't particularly care for the massive carnage/meat loss and will be switching back to Hammers going forward. Those Atips are a blast shooting rocks and steel at distance and I'll likely continue shooting them as my "fun" load.
I have no personal experience with the ELD line of bullets but a lot of guys I know shooting 7mm cartridges favor the 180gr ELDm over the 175gr ELDx for hunting.
Good luck in your search for a solid performing hunting bullet.

Atips are nasty, that's what i meant when I said hitting bone they literally blow up. Hitting nothing hard they don't expand. Thanks for the info.

You can't see the exit real well but this was a 195 out of a 7stw at 450 yards. Entrance was back a ways to keep off the shoulders, zero meat loss.
