As every rifle is slightly different, you may be best served by starting out about 0.050" off of the lands, and adjust from there. Barnes generally like being pretty far from the lands! Which makes it pretty sweet for those that have magazine length issues!

Not sure if I can get to lands with a wby chambering with free bore. I wouldn't feel comfortable with so little bullet in the case.

Well, while I'm meddling in your business, you have plenty of case capacity to go with a heavier, longer bullet…..offering higher BC's, more sectional density and better long range potential! Just a thought
When I was loading a 270 Win for my wife…..I went with 150's for better performance on larger big game. Far less case capacity and less velocity than you will see with your Weatherby!
I'd be seriously looking at the Barnes 155 LRX….. crunch some numbers with it…….it may surprise and please you! Starting velocity means little…..except at closer ranges!

All of my factory 270 Weatherby ammo has had short OAL compared to what I load them at.
I let my rifle's magazine length determine the OAL I use. You have .376" to play with, if your mag box is 3.4", load to that, if it's a Mark V, load to whatever has enough bullet in the case.
I don't understand why you would be wanting factory ammo specs?

This topic was covered a while back on this or perhaps another forum. I believe the consensus was, that with a Barnes…..one band inside the case neck was sufficient!
A search might get you into that conversation. memtb

Well, this is a controversial subject, just as what length a neck should be…
What @memtb says is correct, but many think ONE CALIBRE is minimum, however, I do not believe this to be true.

A lot of people I talk with on FB state that the factory ammo is a great place to start in OAL or CBTO. Especially if someone is having difficulty finding a great handload.
Factory ammo in my 6.5x300 is so good I don't need to reload. But **** what is the fun of that.
But I do exactly as you stated i always start with max mag or mag box and work my way in.
I have found a good bit of people asking how did they find a good load for their weatherbies. Most common answer and fix was try factory oal or cbto and adjust from there.

I do not have a .270 WBY, but I have a .257 WBY that shares the same FB of .378." No, you do not have to chase the lands, but you will need a heavier/longer bullet if you do. For instance, 110 SMK, 145 BH, and 163 Chinchaga are below. With the 145s and 163s, I can reach the lands but load them at .015" to the lands.
(L = 145 BH, R = 163 Chinchaga)
Regarding what is considered enough bullet in the case, the illustration below (using .338 Thor as a visual display only) would be the minimum bullet for me.
Similarly, below is with a .30-06, courtesy of Gre'Tan Rifles.

The only box of factory 270 Weatherby ammo I have is 150g Spire Point. It is 3.215" COAL. This is why I asked what you wanted factory specs for. Even my factory Barnes loads are this short for my 257 Weatherby. Both have .378" throats, as does my 6.5-300 Weatherby, because I run 150g class bullets and want higher velocity than the .200" throat gives.
