I have a custom 338 RUM hunting rifle that I am looking to put a scope on. What would you recommend that would be able to withstand the recoil and also get the most out of this cartridge/rifle setup? Thanks

Are ya trying to keep the weight down to a reasonable carry weight?

If so, while great scopes, Nightforce's are generally fairly heavy. If you're tot'n it……every ounce adds up! memtb

Vortex PST 6-24X50. Discontinued but available from individuals. The Gen l's have 4" of eye relief which helps if you're shooting without a brake. As I recall weight is "only" 23 ounces.

NightForce NXS 8-32x56 with MilDot. If you have interest, I have one with rings I can part with. Came of my LPR 300 WM. Great glass and plenty of magnification. I don't thing the Mildot reticle can be beat, but scope is MOA not MIL.

I just put a Arken on my Brothers 338 Rum . Holy smokes its Sweet so far at $330.00
Epl- 4... 6 x 24 68 moa of adj. In elevation , zero stop, very strong clicks when turning . Lots of good features and the price is hard to argue about .
Excited to see this get pushed out there !

Custom rifle needs good glass. There are lots out there. If you are clumsy (like I am) or are riding around where it can get banged up. NF, NF, NF.

If walking to a blind from the truck, you could go with something less durable. But a RUM will produce recoil worthy of a stout scope...Just because the scope is heavy, doesn't mean it is stout. I would caution you away from ones that offer lifetime/unlimited warranties...because at some point, you will need it.

Did I say NF, NF, NF???

With that said, I have a decent Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x 50 sitting here. Have had it on a 300 RUM and 338 Lapua. Did fine for my work. Everything's for sale. :p

It depends entirely on intended use. I have a 2x12 VX6 on mine. I often use it in close quarters so I want the low low end. 12 on the top is a bit light for my eyeballs now days, but its gotten me out to 650 on antelope.
If I were to put another scope for more distance, I would look at a higher mag VX6, nightforce, Schmidt and Bender, March etc. I really like the idea of the 2.5-25 but I would need to spend some time with it before committing the money.

Welcome to the forum.

+1 for Nightforce, NX8 in particular. I'm assuming this is a long range rig based on the caliber, in which case I'd also suggest the 4-32 magnification range. Reticle of your preference. I am an MOA guy so I go with the MOAR F1.

As you look at options, be sure to consider first focal plan (FFP) vs second focal plane (SFP). If you want to use the reticle for wind or elevation holds, FFP is ideal. I typically dial for elevation and use the reticle for wind holds, but the elevation came in handy on a recent hunt where I didn't have time to dial.
