Time change : Fall back 1 hr

Everybody does realize that the time change is caused in its entirety, due to bureaucratic bungling. Maybe some political candidate should run on a platform to eliminate, "Daylight Savings Time."

No matter what anyone wants to think, there are only so many hours of daylight in any given day. When daylight is started now will still end sometime as determined by nature, later. For today, November 3rd here in Southern Wisconsin, shooting hours (all that matters) starts at 06:00 am and ends at 4:58 pm (For us Veteran's 0600 to 1658) This means for today we have 10 hours and 58 minutes to hunt today. It would be the same 10 hours and 56 minutes even if we didn't have a clock to follow. Animals don't care, they don't live by a clock. They know when it gets light out hunters start shooting, and when it gets dark out, hunters quit shooting. [ or so it is written. Since suppressors became legal, that might be a dubious distinction.]

When I was a kid, it was explained to me how DST was intended to better align most people's schedules to best take advantage of the amount of daylight we had throughout the year. By the time I grew up and joined the workforce/ratrace, it was ingrained in me that this was a good thing.

The problem is that throughout almost all of my adult working life, I spent the majority of my time leaving home in the dark and coming back home in the dark, almost all year round. Those few months in the summer when I got to enjoy sunshine during the drive into or home from work were a nice...although short...treat.

Now I'm retired. I still wake up in the dark...and still go to sleep after it's dark...so, again, DST does squat for me, aside from causing some confusion twice a year. For 363 days each year, it's useless. For those remaining two, it's an irritation.

Back when I used to drive west each year for a hunt, I would find myself crossing over from one time zone to another, sometimes simultaneously with the changing of the clocks. But...my province did the switch...and the one to the immediate west did not...and the one west of that did...??!?!?!?

By the time I got to the hunt, I had no idea what time it was! :)

You can likely guess how I feel about DST. I think that we should just set the time to DST permanently, but I'd be OK with it being set to Standard Time permanently too.

Here's a bit of trivia I read somewhere.

There was no particular need for time zones and even accurate time before the railroad. When the railroad started crossing the nation, people had to know when to expect the train to arrive, so time zones were established to accommodate the sun arriving overhead at four different times. I believe it was Sears and Roebuck (remember them?) who made a sizeable pocket watch order to sell through their catalogs. Remember those catalogs? We really did have one hanging in our outhouse on the farm.

Then airlines started up and we needed watches that ran late to match the late airlines. Ha ha! Caught you. That's a joke.

Now go vote Tuesday. Don't forget. Please.

While you are setting your clocks, please ALSO REMEMBER TO VOTE TUESDAY. HUNTERS AND SHOOTERS ARE SERIOUSLY UNDERREPRESENTED IN THE VOTING POPULATION, AND THAT'S BAD! VOTE TUESDAY! PLEASE!
Concur! It's a fact! Please vote! There is an underwhelming majority of hunters/shooters/loaders who don't vote! Only 30% of licensed hunters in Pennsylvania vote. We need are brothers in Pa to vote! Molon Labe!
