7mm stw ackley improved.

I did one when I was younger and I ackley improved everything!!! I'm not sure what the gain was over the standard stw but I believe I ran 162sst at 3380ish with rl25. I wasn't to impressed with that combo and barrel didn't last to long either. Maybe today with the better offerings of bullets but have so many other fast 28s.

Probably not a huge consideration with a 7 STW. I certainly support Ackley Improving cartridges where it makes sense, but there isn't enough of a gain for the effort expended on the 7 STW in my opinion.

I see that you previously posted a similar thread but got hijacked 🤬: https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/7mm-stw-ackley-improved.284336/. My response to you then (#36) has not changed. Good luck!
I had to revisit that one to remember what the consensus was....I pretty gave up on it back then but now that I have the die to make Peterson brass into stw it would be easy to make great brass...and the idea of the ai becomes more feasible...I'm happy with the performance of the stw I have...(Hitting 3212fps with Berger 195's and n570)...but I'm torching 9 thousandths of throat in a 100 rounds...I've seen some articles where the flame angle from the ai case helps with that and barrel life is better than a standard case at the same velocities...plus brass life would be better...but realistically I doubt I'd ever shoot the barrel out of my stw either since it's mainly a hunting rifle...

Honestly if I could do it all over again I'd hit the easy button and build a 28 nosler over the stw...I love my stw and it's been fun tinkering with it. My dilemma is now with me being so invested in dies etc it'd be foolish to regear to the 28 nosler. That's where I was thinking the ai might save me on time and well...time

You provided, in part, the answer to your dilemma. Oftentimes, we do it to satisfy the curiosity we have within, and only you can answer that question. That's why I responded as such below. This is one of the reasons I never ask what what rifle to build or buy.
