As I picked up another LH LA 700 in 270 I have been thinking lets go big. I have a 26" 300 wm that I enjoy but want to go 338 route for a target/hunting rifle. 12-15lbs. I can get a magnum bolt and will be using a Remage type barrel. I see the Sherman line
338 Sherman
338 Mega
338 Max

338 win mag
338 edge

Plan to use either Sierra 250 or Hornady 230 eldx

I'm not attempting to "rank" these cartridges, just providing you with that basic data that might be helpful.
Case lengths. Don't have H20 capacities

338 Edge or the 338 Rum ...hands down my choice .
My last Elk at 1244 yards with the 338 Edge , 300 gr. Bergers . "BOOM "

Dont limit yourself to those lighter Bullets , your looking at a real 338 so use a heavy bullet. Easy button !

What kind of speed are you seeing ?

Most of my first go around in the 338 'a were 2850 up to 2884 ft.per.sec with H-1000 , cci 250 , Rem brass and the 300 gr bergers, both the Otm and Elite hunters.

Now I'm testing Re-33 , 300 gr Berger and I'm at 3022 ft.per.sec. I still have a little bit to go . Then NV-570 will be next .
This Rifle has a 1/10 twist 30 " Sendero McGowen barrel.

30" hunting rifle !

I had 7 338's at once ! Lol
My hunting one was a Remington action with a Proof Carbon .
Now my hunting Rifle 338 Rum is 26" .
The Edge I'm still messing with is just for Elr shooting it's a nice 15.6 pounds !

I guess my Dream Hunting 338 Edge would be a 26" 1/9 twist Carbon barrel Ti-Pro 4 or 5 St brake . I would be looking at the 270 gr , 285 gr bullets .

I have a 24" 338 Rum , 250 gr bergers at 2997 with re-26 it's super handy in the timber !
