I'll be hunting at the end of October with an outfitter in Swan Valley for elk. I've done MT Muleys for a few years and 1 year of moose in AK, but never elk nor been in the Swan Valley. Any area-specific recommendations outside of best practices on other areas of MT?

Thanks in advance

Your outfitter is your best source. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks. I've hunted the little belts and mission mountains in some deep snow late November. I remember the latter being a gut check.
I have lived most of my life in western MT but really enjoy hunting east of the divide. The weather can be brutal at times in eastern MT with cold and wind. Western MT is steep, thick, and can get deep with snow.

Amazing hunt/experience. No elk - the snow had just come and the dusting wasn't enough to push the migration yet in the opening part of the season - but we got a some mountain muley action and took a little meat buck. Tough terrain, but wouldn't have it any other way.
