7 MAX and PVA Cayuga 151 and 170, which powders?

572 yards this deer season. Dropped in its tracks. I shot another at 498 drt too.

Everything was in pretty close for me this year. Whitetail at 200 yards in Montana, high shoulder and dead right there.

Two whitetails in Texas, 100-120 yards, both went less than 40 yards.

Three hogs in two shots from about 50 yards, all DRT.

Here's wound photos of one of the Texas bucks. Entry in shoulder, I'm pulling down on that leg to show the wound channel behind the shoulder. Exit behind the ribs on opposite side. Definitely a benefit to making bone contact on entry.

I got a box of the 170's delivered this week and loaded some up this morning. Seated at 3.100 OAL, same as the 151's. Used RL23, worked my way up from 61.0 in 0.5 grain increments til I found pressure at 63.5 grains, 63.0 was 2999 fps. From 61 to 63 were one ragged hole, 63.5 left the rest of the group. I was feeling pretty good about the potential, but when I looked at the target closer there was what appeared to be keyholing. The hole at about 7 o'clock on the target below is a single bullet (63.5 grains)

Loaded up 3 each at 61.5, 62.0 and 62.5 and went out to 270 yards, target below

The 170's are definitely tumbling. This was in a 24" Proof barrel, 1/8 twist and I'm at about 900 feet elevation. Definitely need more twist to run the 170's at this altitude.

Yeah I tried running the 170s in my 7 creedmoor and had amazing speeds with varget and no pressure. Like 2790 fps.

But they were key holing at 100 yds. So if I do a 7 saum it'll be a 7 twist barrel so I can run those 170s.
