Not likely. I'm betting he gets a plea bargain down to a misdemeanor and just has to be on probation of 1 yr.

To answer my fellow from utah. Yes it's ran like a resort around here and there are members of the DNR that are getting tired of it. This is article is disgraceful but I don't think it really highlights the biggest problem and that's the lack of education concerning the states. This guy is the first and sadly won't be the last. Some one got busted treeing cougars and coming back the next day with a hunter. One way to fight this is to go to the meetings and make your voice heard.

I could care less about what people do to Mountain Lions. That's all those folks in Salt Lake that want to die on that hill. I've seen California do nothing…like fish and wildlife literally don't remove mountain lions that start to move into private lands and attack lifestock and pets. Then threaten property owners to do nothing as well.

The real disgrace is anyone willing to pay $40k to a "guide" to shoot a deer over corn regardless if it's legal or not. Imo

Imagine being so "lacking in education" that you end up paying a guy what it cost to buy a 2024 Trail blazer or Ford Bronco brand new at the dealer, to illegally hunt on private land in a state that generally has some pretty good opportunity in general…

I think in 96 or so some one bought a California auction desert sheep tag for 3 million dollars. I know they have auctions for helping wildlife but at some point are they really interested in helping wildlife or is it just for bragging rights ?
And yeah the amount of money people are willing to spend to hunt on private property is absolutely insane.
And it's destroying opportunities for the average joe that just wants to be able take a week off work spend time with family and friends and maybe fill the freezer for the winter.
Kinda like the private hunting ranch on top of roan range next to the book cliffs. They spent millions on and then wanted all the roads closed down so only the gas company's and they could drive on them.
But the DNR was generous enough to give the general public a hunting preservation about 10 miles in on top of the mountain that the only way to get their was on foot, horses or helicopter.

This thread is gonna get ugly quick. ^^You better look at your outfitters^^ as well as your governor. Most of the western states are getting big outstate money from the outfitter lobby to control land and policy. The genie is out of the bottle and the politicians have discovered the monetary and political value of our wildlife. Y'all better savor your hunting time and start saving for tags cause even residents in alot of states have a hard time getting drawn already. And it's only going to get worse.

It always comes down to money for any government agency whether it's federal or the state level.
This character in the article should get the book thrown at him just like a ordinary Joe but we know that won't happen.

Same here how do you think they got the so called governor tags and the 400 + bulls,
Heck I remember they took out 100 head of elk out of where my dad lives and traded Kentucky for 100 Turkey's.
I'm glad that Kentucky has elk but really lb for lb The Utah game and fish don't know how to horse trade.

That is a pathetic truth.

Our "commission" is a long way from making scientific decisions for the benefit of the Animals. Or at least they were in the past.
But I've certainly seen some decisions made that directly helped a few of them and their pals, directly.!

You got that right our Governor appointed a new FWP commission and they did away with all but 3or4 of the Bull Elk draw areas in Montana.
As soon as they did that most ranchers that had trophy bull leased to outfitters,because nonresidents did not have to draw a bull tag there!
Before that alot of ranchers just charged a fee!
It sure shut out the locals!
