Ok, so coming from the UK visiting the States next March , specifically Las Vegas Wedding Aniversary!

Wife wants to visit the Grand Canyon , possibly Hoover Dam & see the Lights on the the strip, me , I'd like to to shoot a big Gun a long way!. Current investigations turned up one shot with BMG at 25Yrd's for $25, not exactly what I had in mind!

I've a little experience, I've a Win Mag that occasionally gets out to a Mile here & .233 I shoot to 1200, . . . . . well on a nice day anyway!

Can anybody offer any suggestions or help please?. Happy to buy ammo & help out with whatever needs doing. Also like to try a few handguns but think I can probably put up with 25yrds in Vegas for that.

This sounds like a great opportunity for any maybe local member to volunteer to help a visiting member from across the pond. It has all the earmarks of being a terrific way to celebrate new friends and have a real hoot of a good time shooting.

If you don't get any offers that sound good you might try hiring a guide to take you on a prairie dog hunting excursion. I think some offer you to use their guns. March is a bit early for prairie dogs in some states but Nevada might have some opportunities that early. Or you could share a hunting guide with someone you find on here and share his/her rifles and ammo.

Prairie dogs at long range are very challenging targets and the fun when you hit one is hard to match. You might also get an opportunity to hunt a few coyotes with the same guide.

Just a thought. I'd offer to join you but that's not a time of year I can break free to do something like that however, having said that, I'd LOVE to do that some time again. I hosted someone from Australia a few years ago on a ranch in New Mexico and we had so much fun I'll never forget that trip. We shot prairie dogs from 110yds out to 625yds and went through several hundred rounds of ammunition.

I certainly miss those days.
 
There's a gun club range to the North of LV a little bit. I wonder if they have any options?

I hadn't realized that Frontsight went under. Anyone know anything about their re-emergence under a new name? Would they have any options?

BTW, while in Vegas I suggest visiting the Ethel M Chocolate Factory and it's adjacent cactus garden. I am not a fan of cacti, and that garden is amazing! They have the only Boojum Tree that I've ever seen not in the one small area where they grow on the Baja Peninsula. These things look like Dr. Suess designed them - see the link ^. They've had a solar power farm on the property long (visible from the cactus garden) before that was even remotely common, and their water reclamation system (also partly visible from the garden) is very impressive. Making chocolate requires a lot of water, recycling it makes good sense.
I'll also suggest visiting Red Rock just to the West of town. And if you can swing it, Valley of Fire Nevada State Park North of LV a ways. If it came to a choice between Red Rock and Valley of Fire, I'd take the Valley, no reservations. This pic was our camp site during a trip in 2013.
 
No prairie dogs in Nevada that I know of. I'm guessing there are ground Squirrels though.
