I have 3 270W and they all like 4831 powder….that's very unusual your 270 doesn't like it

IMR 4831 was my first purchase when I started reloading not too long ago. H4831SC is now an easy button for me. I just wish I could stop wanting to try different powders.
I have 3 270W and they all like 4831 and it doesn't matter what bullet I use. Very unusual for your 270 not to like it.

The IMR 4831 is a slightly slower burning powder than the IMR 4350 primarily for the heavier loads like 330 gr and up.
Myself I have not seen it listed in any of my reloading data, and I use a lot of IMR powders like 4350, 4060, 4895.
According to IMR it is used for the heavier loads in the magnum lines and the Win 270 is not a heavy load magnum. I am assuming it is close to the 4350 powder but slower burning and you may have it with the 4350 is why you purchased it. I encountered a similar situation with my Win 94 when powder became so scarce. For over 30 years I used IMR 4895 in those reloads and when I couldn't find any I researched the closest powder I could find, which at that time was the IMR 4064. I had a little better luck than you did though. My Win 94 shooting 170 gr using the 4064 performs better,(at least my opinion), than the 4895 and easier to find, so I've been using it since.
I use the 4350 in several calibers (WBY .340 Mag, Ruger 375, Browning .243 Mag) and am happy with it
in those calibers. Although, the 4831 may perform better in the two larger magnums since I am shooting 300 gr Sierra Match King in each of them.

Had a Browning A Bolt in 270 Win that loved the stuff pushing Hornady 130 gr spire point interloc bullets at close to 3100 fps. This was actually the first rifle I started stretching my distance with back in the day. We were shooting softball sized balloons one day at 500 yards getting ready for a Colorado elk hunt and the guys made a new rule against that little rifle. Only 30 cal and larger were allowed after I popped a balloon every time the 270 went bang lol. Haven't owned a 270 since, but that rifle loved it. 7mm Rem mag, and 30-06 both liked Imr 4831 for me.

Works great in mine also but I'm using 139 Hornady interbond. About 3100 fps.
154 interbond going 3050 fps.

Like others, I was expecting to see a lot of 270 responses. I've used this powder exclusively in loads for my Browning A-bolt 270 with 1:10 twist and find it to be very accurate. Loading 54 gr with either a 150gr Swift A-frame or Nosler Partition pushing 2850 fps. Currently building some 150 Nosler AccuBond LR.

My Model 70 .270 Supergrade loves Hodgdon 4831sc under a 130 grain Hornady. .5 MOA!!!
Interested to try in my 154 grain 7mm Wby magnum and 165 grain 30-06.
