IMR 4350 / 4831 vs H 4350 / 4831

I have both, IMR4350 and H4350. The IMR will shoot slightly tighter groups in my 6.5 Creed virtually every time.

Some areas have a ready supply of Hodgdon, while others have IMR.
Ditto Ramshot and Norma.

Vihtavouri used to be the more expensive powder. Not so right now. And their entire line is locally available.

H4831 is a bit slower burning than I 4831...
Vit. has been showing some real promise lately. I've picked up nearly 30 # of various Vit. powder in the last few years and I'm probably picking up more. The data is a bit sparser for it, but there's enough to get moving with it for the most part.

I love them both.

IMR4350 was my go-to for my 30-06's and 270's for decades, delivering excellent results. Velocity was rarely stretched with accuracy/precision looked at as the primary consideration. I never experienced temperature sensitivity issues perhaps due to the short-medium range distances they were tested and used. When I started to hunt/compete at the longer ranges, velocity/ES, temperature sensitivity, cold bore accuracy, etc. was far more critical all for long range performance(1000 yards). I found that H4350 for small capacity cases(ie. 260R, 6.5x47L) and, H4831SC for larger case capacities(ie 6.5x284), gave exceptional accuracy, optimal case fill, low ES/temperature stability, and cold bore accuracy….Conversely, since the Obama era shortages for which the H powders were in short supply(with some still hard to find today), it was a struggle to achieve all these characteristics with the IMR powders for these cartridges. Perhaps I could have gotten there with the IMR powders with additional load development work but it seemed far easier to hunt down the powder…which I was/am usually able to do. IME, the "H" powders(including H1000) have generally been some of the easiest, and most consistent powders for me to work with for precision shooting…

Used IMR 7828 and 120gr bullets in 25:06 for years , fast and accurate, great velocity increase over both 4350 and 4831

Never really used IMR4831 in the past, dad did. Tried some for a friends 7RM and 168g bullets and it shoots the best groups out of numerous other slower powders. Same result with his 30 Nosler. I now use it in my 257wby with 115g bullets because it shoots the best, and I tried 7828, MRP, 7977, H4831, 4955. So I have an 8# jug to use up. I do use all the others in different rifles/calibers/cartridges.
