I'm back from my 2nd Chuckar hunt

My dad and I chukar hunted almost every weekend here in N. Nev from age 12 till I was 17 or 18. Can't even imagine how many miles we covered in the steep, rocky country they call home. Bruised shins and knees, sprained ankles were an all winter thing. Once the season ended in Feb., you finally got a chance to heal up and start all over again in Oct. We killed 200-300 birds a year. They are phenominal table fare, so rarely did we have any left come July.
From the dry, hot, snake riddled early season, to traversing huge shale slides in waist deep snow, it was always a hard earned bonding experience with my dad.
I still enjoy getting out and chasing the red legged devils, but I can't do it like I did back then.

Such a fun bird to hunt but tough to get in their neighborhood. When I lived in Vegas we hunted north of town around Boulder Spring and Big Lime Mtn. and saw plenty of birds, killed a few. Also hunted NE of Vegas in an area called Whitney Pocket and shot gambel's quail, blue quail and chukar on the same trip several times!
Was going to mention quail as well, but couldn't remember the species. There was a small covey of them that weren't typically found in that region right next to our chukar spot.
